Schuhmacher, Carol Blodgett
Carol Blodgett Schuhmacher, 88, a resident of Moundview Manor in Marion, left this world Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, to live with her Lord in Heaven. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Living Water United Methodist Church in Marion by the Rev. Gary Hoyt. Family will greet friends one hour before services at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private family inurnment at Blodgett Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include her children, Barbara Hebl Peshek of Davenport, George Schuhmacher of McPherson, Kan., and the Rev. Martin (Jan) Schuhmacher of Marion; eight grandchildren, Jody Peshek, Aaron Peshek, Gail Peshek, Meghan Stallings, Kristin (Scott) Engum, Jaclyn (Jr.) Farley, Cora Schuhmacher and Gretchen (Caleb) Cheak; and six great-grandchildren, Sarah Stallings, Austin O'Bannon, Zack Farley, Isabella Engum, Allison Farley and Brody Engum.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Karen Schuhmacher; and siblings, Dorothy McCullough, Rae Dvorak and David Blodgett.
Carol was born Aug. 12, 1922, the daughter of Claire and Catherine (MacLennan) Blodgett in Central City. A graduate of Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids, she received her B.A. from Coe College and did graduate work at the University of Iowa and the University of Wyoming. She taught English at Franklin High School and at Amana High School, Middle Amana. Carol was a charter member of Living Water United Methodist Church in Marion, and also belonged to MENSA and Daughters of the American Revolution.
