Schroeder, Frieda Evangeline Meyer
Frieda Evangeline Meyer Schroeder, 91, a resident of the Keystone Nursing Care Center the past two years, is now at rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after going home to be with Him on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011. A service for the celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Luzerne with Pastor Michael Musick officiating. Interment will be held at Luzerne Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 3 to 5 p.m. today.
Frieda was born to Theophil and Bertha (Wieser) Meyer in Maryland, N.Y. She graduated from Wayne School of Practical Nursing in Chicago in 1945. In addition to working as a nurse, she was involved with the church youth group and helped various family members and friends.
On may 27, 1950, she married Harold Joseph Schroeder at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Luzerne. They lived on a farm near Luzerne, where they raised four daughters and Frieda helped her husband farm. An active member of their church, Frieda was in charge of Vacation Bible School and the Cradle Roll Program for several years. Her life time of service was prompted by her passion to reach people with the love of Christ.
Harold preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1977, and Frieda remained on the farm until 2009, when she moved to the care facility in Keystone.
Frieda is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Roger) Ward of State Center, Joan (Martin) Weber of Cameroon, Africa, Esther (Edward) Sander of Seward, Neb., and Mary (Brad) Sievers of Luzerne; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Marie Ramsey; her sister-in-law, Florence Meyer; her brother-in-law, Vernon Schroeder; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Theophil Meyer, and her sister, Bertha Buelow.
Memorials may be made to Lutheran Bible Translators, designated to Weber-Kwanja ministry, or to Central Lutheran School.
