Schroeder, Ellen Mae
Ellen Mae Schroeder, 81, of Elgin, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union. As were her wishes, she has been cremated. A graveside celebration of her life for family and friends will be held 10:30 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Postville Cemetery. Immediately following the celebration of life, a fellowship luncheon will be held at the Illyria Community Church in Elgin.
Ellen was born Dec. 23, 1931, in rural Postville, to Hollis and Velma (Christofferson) Enyart. She attended Springfield country school in rural Clayton County and graduated from Postville High School. She married Kenneth Schroeder on May 5, 1951. They later divorced. To this union three children were born: John, Randy and Douglas. They farmed near Postville. Ellen later moved to Ames and was employed at Farner-Bocken Co. for 14 years before retiring in 1994.
Ellen moved to Elgin after retirement and became a member of Illyria Community Church and Progressive Home Study Club. She enjoyed being with family and friends, walking, golf, doing embroidery, and playing cards with her many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant son, Randy; sister-in-law, Glenna Enyart; and brother-in-law, Myrten Strong.
She is survived by two sons, John (Vicki) Schroeder of Mount Pleasant and Douglas (Diane) Schroeder of Huxley; four grandchildren, Jason (Raelynn) Schroeder of Pella, Lisa (Andrew) Walter of Norwalk, Jamie (Jeremy) Arend of Ankeny and Ashley (Justin) Harker of Cambridge; seven great-grandchildren, Logan, Macy and Carter Schroeder, Aidan and Camden Walter, Jaxon and Jentry Harker; brother, Robert Enyart; sister, Mary Strong; a niece; nephews and many friends.
Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to Illyria Community Church in Elgin, Palmer Lutheran Health Center and Palmer Hospice in West Union or mailed to 206 West Corry Ct., Mount Pleasant, IA 52641.
