Schoonover, Ray Warren
Ray Warren Schoonover, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center after a short illness. Per Ray's request, there will be no public services or visitation. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include daughter, Janet (Leo) Bonifazi of Cedar Rapids; a grandson, Travis (Tracey) Krouise of Fairfax; great-grandsons, Cole Krousie and Kaden of Fairfax; one brother, Lawrence Schoonover of Coarsegold, Calif.; and several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine Schoonover; a daughter, Jeanne Stephens; and two brothers, Neal and Walter Schoonover.
Ray was born on May 25, 1921, at Bennett, Iowa, son of Harry and Amy (Harrison) Schoonover. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1939. Ray was a World War II veteran serving three years in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. Ray was employed by Gateway Transportation Company for 30 years, retiring in 1978.
Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his willingness to help others.
Family requests that memorials be sent to a charity of choice.
He was a child of God who loved to sing to the Lord.
