Scholl, Wilmer J.
Wilmer J. Scholl, 91, of Cedar Rapids, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids.
He was born June 15, 1921, in Bagley, Minn., the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth A. (Cook) Scholl. He attended school in Bagley. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines for 30 years. On June 12, 1947, he and the former Mary Ernestina Flaws were married in Bagley. She preceded him in death in 1991. Mr. Scholl worked for a time at National Oats in Cedar Rapids, but never really found his land legs. He soon returned to the shipping industry on the Great Lakes until he retired.
Mr. Scholl was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed time spent hunting and fishing.
Mr. Scholl is survived by two sons, James (Deborah) Scholl of Alburnett and Sidney Scholl of LaPorte, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by his Christ Episcopal Church family.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William J. Scholl; three sisters, Frances Hayes, Iva McKinney and Patricia Marshall; and his twin brother, Wilbur Scholl.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids. Burial of Mr. Scholl's cremains will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids at a later date. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
