Schoenfelder, Carl J.
Carl J. Schoenfelder, 98, one of the last true gentlemen, died in his sleep at Evergreen Estates III, Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Carl was born April 1, 1912, in Minnesota. Carl was the son of George and Elizabeth Schoenfelder. He was united in marriage to Viola Knock on April 10, 1938. Carl farmed for the first 15 years of their marriage and then they moved to Cedar Rapids, where he became a diesel mechanic. Carl lived and believed that the only two important things in life were God and his family. Everyone who met him and knew him was touched by his gentleness, patience and love. He was proud of his son and daughter; loved his five grandchildren; and adored his eight great-grandchildren and was looking forward to the arrival of the ninth great-grandchild.
He is survived by his children, Glenn (Eleanor) Schoenfelder of Howell, N.J., and Elaine (Ed) Brejcha of Hiawatha; and his sister, Freida Kirkpatrick of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, two brothers and one grandchild.
Carl will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.
