Schnittjer, Dave J.
Dave J. Schnittjer, 74, of rural Manchester, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, at St. John's Catholic Church in Delhi by the Rev. Julie May and the Rev. Lorraine Hartman. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Earlville. Additional visitation one hour before services at the church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi at a later date.
Dave was born Sept. 3, 1938, in Manchester, the son of Maynard and Hazel (Durey) Schnittjer, graduating from Delhi Consolidated High School in 1956. On June 15, 1985, Dave was united in marriage to Judy Jenatscheck. The couple farmed near Delhi, “retiring” in 1990. Dave enjoyed traveling, spending many winters in Texas and time with his family and friends. Dave continued to enjoy farming even after retirement. Per his request, please dress casual...Dave was a “jeans” guy.
Dave is survived by his wife, Judy Schnittjer of Manchester; six children, Sheryl (Dave Sands) Schnittjer of Delhi, Mark (Lynnette) Schnittjer of Delhi, Lori (Mitch) Miller of Colesburg Alan Schnittjer of Hopkinton, Frank Collette of Ankeny and Matthew (Jenny) Jenatscheck of Marion; 11 grandchildren, Dusty (Heather) Schnittjer, Randi (Mike) Flannagan, Shannon (Rod Heidt) Lane, Laci Bennett, Lindsay Schnittjer, Tabitha Schnittjer, Amber Schnittjer, Alanna Schnittjer, Trace Collette, Chloe Jenatscheck and Hailee Jenatscheck; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Audrey (George) Wall of Delhi, John (Dorothy) Schnittjer of Dell City, Okla. and Sue (Jon) Volz of Cedar Rapids; aunts, Jean Puffett of Manchester, Ava Lamar, Hollis Hill, Fla. and Elaine Schnittjer of Orlando, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Maynard and Hazel Schnittjer; a grandson, Dr. Austin Goldsmith; and aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe directed to Maquoketa Valley Dollars for Scholars in Dave's Memory.
