Schmoldt, David D.
David D. Schmoldt, 56, of Marion, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010. A public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Bill Harnish will officiate.
David was born Dec. 3, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to the late John and Doreen Moorman Schmoldt. He was a 1973 graduate of Washington High School. He attended the University of Iowa and was a member of the marching band. He graduated in 1977 with a teaching degree. He taught school for several years but ultimately decided to make a career change. He became involved with computers and joined the IT department at the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
He worked as a sound man for Theatre Cedar Rapids since 1980. David was involved in Washington High School theater productions and was later elected to their Hall of Fame. In addition, he spent time producing for the Liar's Theater.
David is survived by his sister, Barbara (Robert) Hasley; an aunt, uncle, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and paternal and maternal grandparents.
