Schminke, David H.
David H. Schminke, 68, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, with the Rev. Stephen K. Preus officiating. Private interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth St., Vinton.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
David was born March 15, 1944, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton to Henry and Audrey (Hartz) Schminke. He attended school in Vinton and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1962. On June 3, 1995, David was united in marriage to Marilyn Schultz at Urbana. He owned and operated Dave Schminke Trucking in Vinton for many years.
David was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, Tama-Benton Co-Op and was in 4-H in his youth. He enjoyed both NASCAR and local stock car racing and loved his T-Bucket Hot Rod. David's greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends.
David is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Vinton; his children, Scott (Mari Sue) Schminke of Vinton, Tim (Susan) Schminke of Cedar Rapids and Jeannie Schminke of Waterloo; his stepsons, Jammey Schultz of Cedar Rapids and Adam Schultz of Vinton; his 13 grandchildren; his brother, Dean (Jane) Schminke of Vinton; his stepmother, Pauline Schminke of Vinton; and his two stepsisters, Sherry (George Dinsdale) Elliott of Washington, N.C., and Dianne Rager of Waterloo.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his daughter in infancy, Christina.
