Schmidt, Duane Allen
Duane Allen Schmidt, 59, of South Greensburg, Pa., died July 12, 2012, after a short battle with cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bacha Funeral Home, Greensburg, Pa., by Pastor Robert A. Free. Friends may visit Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bacha Funeral Home.
The son of Gordon and Alice (Michels) Schmidt of Manchester, Duane was born Sept. 12, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In November 1974, he married Nancy Godfrey in Denver, Colo. They later divorced.
Duane is survived by his parents, Gordon and Alice (Michels) Schmidt of Manchester; son, Mark (Christina) of Greensburg, Pa.; daughter, Christina (Heath) Landt of Monona; two sisters, Paula (Don) Krogmann of Center Point and Laura (Bill) Thomas of Manchester; one brother, Gary (Andrea) Schmidt of Manchester; six grandchildren, Trent, Ryne, Bradley, Loren, Brian and Tanner; and many much loved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Kathleen Dziuban, with whom he lived; his son, Paul, in 2008; his sister, Karla, at birth; and his niece, Olivia Schmidt.
Also preceding him in death were his grandparents, Carl and Dorothy Michels of Cedar Rapids and Paul and Elda Schmidt of Manchester.
Duane was a gifted carpenter and left traces of his craftsmanship in many parts of Greensburg, Pa., the city where he lived for many years.
He was a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather.
His greatest enjoyment was time spent with his family and grandchildren.
