Schmelzer, Brian E.
Brian E. Schmelzer, 38, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with burial to follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel.
Brian was born June 22, 1975, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Earl “Butch” and Bonnie (Houlahan) Schmelzer. Brian married Kolby Yarnell on May 17, 2008, in Marion. Brian completed Kirkwood's program for Auto Collision and worked for Auto Collision in Marion. He enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle as well as spending time with his family. Brian was a good listener and was a skilled handyman. He could figure out how to fix anything. He was always willing to help friends and family fix things. He had a really funny sense of humor and was noted for saying some of the most random things.
Brian is survived by his wife, Kolby; his sons, Tayte Schmelzer and Dylan Mienke; parents, Butch and Bonnie of Cedar Rapids; his brother, Sang (Ngoc) Nguyen of Canton, Mich.; his sisters, Vicki Schmelzer of Cedar Rapids and Julie (Eric) Madden of Tuscon, Ariz.; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name at Hills Bank.
