Schlotter, Thomas D.
Thomas D. Schlotter, 67, of Hiawatha, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy from lung cancer that was complicated by limbic encephalitis. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Troy Weigert officiating. Burial will be held at Shiloh Cemetery in Hiawatha following the luncheon.
Thomas Dean Schlotter was born April 8, 1946, to Cecil and Elizabeth Graham Schlotter at home in Troy, Iowa. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1964. Thomas was united in marriage to Carolyn Vanderpol on April 23, 1966, in Ottumwa, Iowa. He worked for Pepsi Cola for over 20 years and then at Compo Arts and Mailing Services.
Thomas loved to go fishing and square dancing. He had a lot of special friends with whom he and Carolyn would go dancing. Thomas loved being retired; he and Carolyn took several trips together. They also enjoyed walking their dog, Shelby. Thomas loved spending time with his family and doing things with Chris and Lisa. He enjoyed going to his granddaughter, Taylar's dance recitals.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; son, Christopher Schlotter of Hiawatha; daughter, Lisa Stout, and granddaughter, Taylar Stout, both of St. Louis, Mo.; and a sister, Betty (Dale) Langford of Troy.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
