Scherf, Eldean Henry
Eldean Henry Scherf, 78, of Farmersburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at the Guttenberg Care Center. Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg, with the Rev. Burton Everist officiating. Interment: Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, rural Farmersburg. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before services at the church on Monday. Everyone is invited to a Celebration of Life at the Farmersburg Community Center following the interment.
He was born May 25, 1932, at rural Guttenberg, to William and Viola (Tackman) Scherf. He was united in marriage to Cheryll Kramer on Jan. 18, 1954, at St. John Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Eldean was a devoted farmer and family person. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and always led an active life.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryll of Farmersburg; his children, Jeff (Jane) Scherf of Anamosa, Julie (Herb) Niedert of Springville and Jane Willie of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jennifer McNamara, Jillian Ward and Jacob Morley; great-grandchildren, Cade McNamara, Madison, Kennedy and Morgan Ward; siblings, Marlene Glawe of St. Olaf, William Scherf II of Farmersburg, Vernelda (Wayne) VanNote of Clinton and Lloyd (JoAnn) Scherf of Harpers Ferry; sister-in-law, Carol Scherf Ortman of Marquette, special family, Troy Willie and Dan Tieskotter; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Ward; brother, Loren Scherf; brother-in-law, Verdine Glawe; sister-in-law, Lafonda Scherf; and in-laws, Dale and Marie Kramer.
