Schaffer, Ronald L.

Ronald L. Schaffer, 68, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at his home of natural causes. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be at East York Township Cemetery (Harrington) in rural Iowa County.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to Iowa City Hospice.

Ronald Lyle Schaffer was born Nov. 12, 1940, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Donald and Leona (Jackson) Schaffer. He was united in marriage to Dorothea O. Evans on July 26, 1959, in Iowa City. For over 40 years Ron worked for the University of Iowa in custodial services. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Iowa City.

His family includes a son, Douglas Schaffer of North Liberty; daughter, Rhonda Schaffer of West Branch; grandson, Kyle Schaffer of Tiffin; his father, Donald Schaffer of Mason City; and sisters, Beverly Nugin of Des Moines, Shirley Olson of Mason City and Sharon Olinger of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and his wife, Dorothea on March 24, 2009.
