Saylor, Frank 'Skip' W.
Frank “Skip” W. Saylor, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Ressler. Burial: St. John Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus Council #5544. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
Frank W. Saylor was born Dec. 17, 1929, to Frank C. and Margaret (Wallace) Saylor in Cedar Rapids. He attended St. Patrick High School and Iowa State University. He married Jane R. Sebetka on June 20, 1950. They flourished in their marriage for over 50 years before Jane passed away on Oct. 27, 2000.
Frank had four children, Janet (Eddy) Armer of Gore, Okla., Julie (David) Peterson of Pleasant Hill, Mark G. (Charlotte) Saylor of Carthage, Mo., and Frank C. (Shelia) Saylor of Cedar Rapids. He is survived by seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and lifelong friend and a dear companion, Lois Mackey of Cedar Rapids.
Frank worked at Penick & Ford, Swiss Valley and CPI Sales, before his retirement in 1991. In 1980, Frank received his facility engineer certification from the American Institute of Plant Engineers.
Frank was a charter member of St. Jude Catholic Church and volunteered many hours to serve as a parish council president, finance committee member and building/grounds committee. He remained a consultant/ plant engineer for the schools of St. Jude, LaSalle and Xavier High School until his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother, Donald A. Saylor.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Building/Grounds fund of either LaSalle or Xavier High School or the memorial of the donor's choice.
Frank enjoyed many hobbies throughout his lifetime, including fishing and hunting with family and friend, traveling, flying and genealogy. “Keep the Faith.”
