Saub, Charlotte Margaurite
Charlotte Margaurite Saub, 93, of Cedar Rapids, was called home Saturday, June 4, 2011, to be with her Lord and all of her numerous family and friends who preceded her. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Friends may call at the church after 10 a.m. Friday. Entombment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Charlotte is survived by her children and family left to celebrate her life, daughters, Deborah (Craig) Hotchkiss of Toddville, and Patty (Barry) Pickus of Baltimore, Md.; son, Lawrence (Susan) Saub of Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Hotchkiss, Kristin Hotchkiss, Kara Hotchkiss, SonDee Geiger, Stephen Cartano, Matthew Saub and Christopher Saub; and 11 great grandchildren, Damion Schulze, Kaitlin Hotchkiss, Kaden Hotchkiss, Madison Cartano, Taylor Trivas, Kolin Geiger, Simeon Saub, Lilly Saub, Micah Saub, Stone Saub and Maddie Saub.
Charlotte was born May 9, 1918, in Mitchell, S.D. She married Roy Saub there on Nov. 21, 1939, and moved to Cedar Rapids. She and Roy worked for over 50 years in various restaurant/lounges they owned together which included the Stop Off Cafe, Gold Room Lounge and Bowling Alley, the 420 Club and Roy's Horseshoe Lounge. In later years she volunteered at St. Pius X office.
“Siti” (grandma) was young at heart for all of her 93 years. She was an avid golfer walking nine holes, bowling in a league for over 60 years; able to do both until age of 91. She enjoyed playing bridge on Mondays with the Cedar Rapids Woman's Club, cards and penny bingo in the afternoon with her friends at Brookview. Her greatest joy was playing with her great-grandkids. She loved her Fridays playing the Wii with Kaden and Kaitlin.
Special thanks go to the Brookview Senior Living staff the last three years, and Hospice of Mercy for the compassionate care given to mom in the last few days of her life. Thank you to her doctors and nurses, especially Drs. Bertroche, Fusselman and Wagdy for the care and compassion they showed mom. The family would also like to thank special friends, Tom and Roxanne Brennan for all the love and care they showed Charlotte over the years and the weekly cocktails she looked forward to.
My mother was my confidant, biggest fan and best friend. I will miss her three to four phone calls a day. “Why don't you answer the phone? You know I worry.” “Sorry”, she would say, “I was playing cards, exercising or going to penny bingo.”
She will be missed greatly by her family. She was always a part of our everyday life, dinners, holidays, golfing and bowling.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
Online condolences may be sent to under obituaries.
