Sass, Maynard L.
Maynard L. Sass, 69, formerly of Iowa City, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, in Hinkley, Calif., where he had resided for a number of years. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the mausoleum of Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. There will be a period of visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.

Maynard Lee Sass was born June 14, 1941, in Iowa City, the son of Marvin and Mildred (Bell) Sass. He attended Iowa City schools graduating from City High School, and then attending and graduating from the University of Iowa. He made the United States Army his career, having enlisted during the Vietnam War, and continuing in service until his retirement and settling down in California.
His family includes his children, Karla Sass of Knoxville, Tenn., Darla Sass of Spring Grove, Minn., David Sass (Heather) of Oskaloosa, and Jeff Sass of Coralville; grandchildren, Kennedy Sass, Kalynn Sass, Cheyenne Moen, Robyn Moen and Father Rolland Johnson; brother, Maury Sass and his wife, Sherry of Riverside; sister, Marcia Landuyt of Coralville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Stacey Sass.
