Sara "Jane" Kell, 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Jane was born Oct. 2, 1921, the daughter of Howard and Mary (Raftery) Hahn in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1939. Jane attended Coe College for two years and Cedar Rapids Business College for six months. She worked as a marketing assistant for United Fire Group for over 20 years before retiring in 1987. Jane was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Kell on Aug. 31, 1946. He passed away in March 1960.
Jane was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and St. Matthew's Catholic Church. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. Jane also enjoyed spending time gardening in her backyard.
Survivors include her four sons, Thomas Kell (Mary Murphree) of Cullman, Ala., Dennis Kell of Cedar Rapids, Michael (Wilma) Kell of Cedar Rapids and Steven (Judi) Kell of Fishers, Ind.; five grandchildren, Abigail (Brian) Roche of Northbrook, Ill., Amanda Kell of Burbank, Calif., Angela (Lonnie) Klein of Palo, Stacey (Todd) Dresser of Ankeny and Justin Kell of Cedar Rapids; six great-grandchildren, Colin, Samantha, Annabelle, Matthew, Grace and Olivia; and sister-in-law, Sallie Hahn of Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and two sisters.
