Sara H. Cosby, 89, of Prairie Village, Kan., formerly of Marion, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Kansas.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. The family will begin greeting friends at 10 a.m. before the service in the chapel. Entombment will follow in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Sara was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Lexington, Ky., to Anthony and Sara (Durrett) Hays. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in education, she began a career as an elementary schoolteacher. She taught in the Lexington, Ky., Toledo, Ohio, and Marion, Iowa, school districts. She was united in marriage to John T. Cosby on Dec. 18, 1949, in Richmond, Ky.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, knitting, reading and being active at their church.
Sara is survived by her son, John Anthony "Tony" (Beverly) Cosby of Overland Park, Kan.; two grandson, Thomas (Erin) Cosby of Omaha, Neb., and Nicholas (Natalie) Cosby of Farmington, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Samantha, John, Brandon and Alexandra.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband.
Memorial donations in Sara's name may be made to the Marion Christian Church Music Program.
