Sandra Sue Rompot, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with Deacon Vernon Rompot KHS presiding. Sandy was born Dec. 19, 1944, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Mary (Romine) Stavely. She was united in marriage to Donald Rompot on June 3, 1961, at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. Sandy and Don had three kids and spent many happy summers spending time fishing and camping with friends where the group would ride mini-bikes around the campgrounds or go motorcycle riding. Sandy loved looking for bargains at garage sales and frequently spoiled all the kids with the treats she would find.
Sandy always wanted to learn new things and tackled quilting in later years. She loved making quilts and donated many quilts to the cancer treatment centers. She has been the top at trivia, an excellent cook and holds true to family traditions. She has been the strength of the family.
Sandy is survived by a loving and devoted husband, Don; her three children, Tami Davis, Donna (Jim) Gideon and Donald (Maureen) Rompot Jr.; her five grandchildren, Meagan (Mike) Peck, Justin (Jenni) Gideon, Alyssa Quinn, Jacob Rompot and Nick Rompot; and finally two great-grandchildren, Bayleigh and Sadie. She also is survived by her loving sister, Mary Fountain; brothers, Al McCloskey and Kenneth Shaver; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She will be deeply missed.
Sandy was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Waalk; her brothers, Bryan Waalk, Leroy Shaver and Robert Newton; and her loving son-in-law, Don Davis.
Memorials may be directed to Brosh Chapel.
