Sandra Kay Carpenter, 78, of Marion, went home to God on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017. A parish vigil service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. The family will greet friends following the vigil service until 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, conducted by Father Mark Kwenin. Burial will take place at Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Sandra was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1957. Sandra married Donald Lee Carpenter. He passed away in 1979. Sandra worked at Rockwell Collins, Kosek's Dime Store and Morgan Drive Away. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa. Sandra was a member of the Democratic Party and a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Kim) Carpenter of Cedar Rapids and Timothy Carpenter of Marion; four grandchildren, Caitlin, Brad, Travis and JD; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jadyn, Ezekiel and Zionica.
A memorial fund has been established in Sandra's memory.
