Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Sandra A. “Sandi” Frericks, 84, of Bettendorf, formerly of Eldridge and Blue Grass, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Blue Grass. Her family will greet friends 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa at a later date. Sandi passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Humility of Mary, or St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Sandi was born August 29, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Lyle E. and Bersha E. (Moore) Brown. She married Donald E. Frericks on November 26, 1960, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2021.
Sandi was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading, knitting, music, dancing, and sewing. Sandi was very active in her community, her church, and served as a former city council member and mayor pro tem for the City of Blue Grass. In her younger years, Sandi was a dancer performing in many recitals wearing her tap shoes as well as an actress for junior theatre shows. Once her children were school aged, she worked in retail at various department stores including Peterson Von Maur and Yonkers before becoming a financial planner for IDS and Waddell and Reed. Upon her retirement, Sandi served as a volunteer Befriender at Genesis Hospital System and served on the Boards of Serra Club, Church Women’s United, American Business Women’s Association and many other organizations. Sandi was able to put her singing voice to good use performing with CASI’s Goldentones.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Troy (Melanie) Frericks, Des Moines; Timothy (Kelly) Frericks, Princeton; Lynnette (Brad) Creighton, Bettendorf; Melinda (Donald) Furman, Forest City; and Tiffany (Troy) Paarmann, DeWitt; 11 grandchildren: Jacob (Cassie) Frericks, Nicole (Evan) Magelssen, Ashley Frericks, Aeron (Erik) Thorson, Alison (Joshua) White, Craig (Brigid) Frericks, Johnathon Creighton, Christina Furman, Jonathon Furman, Benjamin Paarmann, and Carter Paarmann; 14 great-grandchildren: Judah and Nora Frericks, Ezra and Jasper Magelssen, Ronin and Eastin Frericks, Jackson Bosworth and Rayna Thorson, Kamron, Jayah, Jace, and Kashton White, and Lucas and Nolan Frericks; brother-in-law Marvin (Dorothy) Frericks, sisters-in-law MaryJo Frericks, Caryol “C.J” Frericks, and numerous extended family, including special cousins Abie (Yvette) Baker, Sarah Speedy, & Dennis Baker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister JoLynne (Robert) Meskimen, brothers-in-law Irvin (Barbara) Frericks, Melvin Frericks, Glenn Frericks, sisters-in law Mary (Lee) Teachout and Carol (Francis) Becker, son-in-law Jeffrey Tyson, and a great-grandson James Frericks.
