Sanders, Jon 'Barry'
Jon “Barry” Sanders, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Monday, May 13, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Marion, conducted by Pastor Steve Qualben. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Sanders of Cedar Rapids; children, Wendy (Russ) Pixler of Ames and Brian Sanders of Seattle, Wash.; stepchildren, Lisa (Archie) Abben and Kristi (Blake) Homewood, both of Cedar Rapids, and Mindy (Darwin) Carstensen of Marion; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Sandy (Joe) Schumann of Hawthorne, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ramona Sanders; stepdaughter Jilane Harnish; and great-grandson, Blaine Luzum.
Barry was born Dec. 23, 1940, in Tulsa, Okla., son of Tom and Ramona (Goodman) Sanders. He graduated from Benson High School in Omaha Neb. Barry moved to Perry, Iowa, where he worked for a newspaper and ran a bowling alley. He owned and operated Performance Sales in Cedar Rapids. On Aug. 17, 1990, he was united in marriage to Connie Bruch at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.
Barry was an avid member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and a former member of the Elks Lodge. Barry enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and was a big Nebraska Cornhuskers fan.
