Sanders, John Eugene

John Eugene Sanders, 73, of Garnavillo, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011, in his home, following an extended illness. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.

John E. Sanders was born Oct. 28, 1937, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Howard and JoAnn (Schuh) Sanders. John worked 42 years for Allied Van Lines and in 1996, received Senior Safe Driver of the Year. In 1997, he was a Driver of the Year finalist. Upon retirement, John began working for Kuhlman Construction until his last retirement in 2009. John and Jill Lincoln Pasker were united in marriage on May 11, 2001, in Colesburg, Iowa.

He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Jill Sanders of Garnavillo; one son, Chester Sanders of Tucson, Ariz.; three daughters, Rebecca Sanders, Melissa (Renee) Sanders and Lisa Medina (Rito Ortiz), all of San Diego, Calif.; two stepsons, Benjamin (Melissa) Pasker of Bondurant, Iowa, and Nicholas Pasker of Cedar Rapids; three granddaughters and six stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Mauri Rose (Kirby) Sanders.

A Remembrance Service will be held at 11 a.m. July 23 at Peace Church in Elkader. Visitation will be held one hour before the service.
