Sammons, Icel M. Chidester
Icel M. Chidester Sammons, 96, of Brookview Living,Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 5:10 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
She was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Wapello County, Iowa, to Charles and Laura Pearl Bachman Howk. She married Max Chidester. He preceded her in death in 1983. She married Harold M. Sammons on Feb. 18, 1990. He preceded her in death Sept. 2, 1994.
She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Lorena Kay (Don) Feldmann of Cedar Rapids; a son, Randy (Cynthia) Chidester of Blakesburg; a stepson, Donald (Mabel) Sammons of Ottumwa; a stepdaughter, Marilyn (Keith) Smith of Quincy, Ill.; stepdaughter-in-law, Charlotte Sammons of Kirkville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Chidester; a stepson, Jerry Sammons; two brothers, Ray and Floyd Howk; and three sisters, Iva Wagner, Olive Farnsworth and Gertie Harrison.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home, Ottumwa, with Dr. Craig Bex officiating. Burial will be in the Blakesburg Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 5 Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church or Blakesburg Christian Church.
