Sam Montgomery, 78, of Lisbon, died on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon. Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, by the Rev. John R. Flaherty. Visitation:

4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Burial: St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia "Pat"; children, Danny (Sylvia), Anita (Jim) Northup, Doren (Ruby) and Kirk (Mary) Montgomery; grandchildren, William Montgomery, Hilary (Craig) Michelson, Sam and Jill Northup, Mitchell (Taylor) and Matthew (Maja) Montgomery, and Regina and Katelyn Montgomery; siblings, Mike (Cindy) Montgomery and Regina Roberts; and many nieces, nephews and extended family, including Helen and Bob Caspers.

William Samuel Montgomery was born on May 19, 1940, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Enoch "Gene" and Geneveive (Volk) Montgomery. Sam attended Solon High School, where he played on their first football team, and graduated with the Class of 1958. He met Patricia Sievers at Danceland, and they were married on Aug. 11, 1959, in Solon. Sam worked for Spahn & Rose for more than 20 years, then began his own lumberyard company, Anamosa Building Supply. He belonged to many lumber organizations over the years, and was a longtime member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed traveling and keeping busy, and especially loved family gatherings, including reunions and weddings, especially if there was a euchre or cribbage table set up. He could be described as "a

jack-of-all-trades, but a master of none."

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; and his brother, Joseph.
