Sam Bacon, 56, of Postville, died Friday, March 28, 2014.
Sam was born May 18, 1957, to Bud and Bev (Nelson) Bacon in Postville,
Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School in 1975 and attended college at NIACC in Mason City and Upper Iowa University in Fayette. Sam was united in marriage to Sandy (Oelberg) on May 16, 1981, at Community Presbyterian Church, Postville.
His passions included farming, playing and watching sports, visiting his kids in Minneapolis and Chicago and riding his Gator alongside his dog, Maggie.
Sam is survived by his wife, Sandy; his two children, Brett (Luis Carmona) Bacon of Minneapolis, Minn., and Brittany Bacon of Chicago; his mother, Bev Bacon of Postville; his mother-in-law, Vernalene Oelberg of Waukon; and three siblings, Dwight
(Lisa) Bacon of Decorah, Jenny (John) Harvill of Round Rock, Texas, and Jerry (Sandy) Bacon of
Pella.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bud Bacon; and his father-in-law, Harva Oelberg.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Hall, Postville, and one hour before services Friday at the church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, with the Rev. Gary Catterson as the officiant. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa, is helping the family with the arrangements.
