Salveson, Lilyan Jean
Lilyan Jean Salveson, 93, of Redwood City, Calif., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Oct. 30, 2009, in Redwood City. Memorial mass: 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at St. Pius Church, 1100 Woodside Rd., Redwood City, followed by coffee at Lilyan's home.
Lilyan will be greatly missed by her children, Lorna Basso, Larry Salveson, Randy Salveson, Mary Dunlop, Joan Vreeburg and Jim Salveson. She was grandmother to Matt and Andy Salveson, Nick and Katie Basso, Colleen and Eric Salveson, Tim, Jon and Ryan Salveson, Lily and Rachael Dunlop, and Sean and Holly Vreeburg; and great-grandmother to Leif and Lewis Salveson and Linnea and Tommy Salveson.
Lilyan was preceded in death by her son, Tom Salveson.
Born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Lilyan made her way to San Francisco during World War II as a telephone operator. She met her husband, the late Capt. Edgar Salveson, and settled in Redwood City to raise her family. She was still baking pies and cooking meals for family gatherings.
The family prefers donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
