Sally Reighard, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at her son’s home in DeWitt following a decline in health.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. General calling hours will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. that evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Washington County Relay for Life and Hospice. Myrtle Elizabeth “Sally” Crom was born March 28, 1937, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Luther and Icle (Nelson) Crom. She attended Red Brick Country School and graduated from Washington High School in 1955. Sally was united in marriage to Wayne Reighard on January 8, 1955, in Monmouth, Illinois, cherishing nearly 70 years together.
Sally was the bookkeeper for the family businesses, including Wayne’s Standard, G & W Tire and Appliance, Wayne’s Oil and Tire, and Wayne’s Repair. An avid bowler, Sally served on local, state, and national bowling boards for over 40 years and coached the Washington High School bowling team for more than 20 years. She also dedicated over 30 years of service as the secretary/treasurer for Boy Scouts of America troops. Sally had many other hobbies she enjoyed, including hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, reading, writing, painting, embroidery, and gardening.
She is survived by her two sons: Joel and wife Janet Reighard of Burlington, Iowa, and Brian and wife Susan Reighard of DeWitt, Iowa; sister, Ruth and husband Ray Meth of Olds, Iowa; brother, John Crom of Mason City, Iowa; along with 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne, in 2024; daughter, Phyllis Reighard; son, Jeffrey Reighard; and two brothers, William and Donald Crom.
