Sally Jean Beltz
Sally Jean Beltz
Cedar Rapids
Sally Jean Beltz, 72, peacefully passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, after several years battling numerous health ailments.
Sally grew up in Allison, Iowa, the eldest daughter of Roland "Bud" Harms and Ferol Harms. She graduated from Allison-Bristow High School in 1968. She went on to attend Ellsworth Community College where she met, Scott, her husband of 51 years. They had three children: Tracey, Mark and Chris. Sally never missed a chance to go back to Allison to see friends and relatives. She enjoyed time on the family farm and attending the Butler County Fair. After many years employed as a teachers assistant, Sally returned to college to pursue her elementary education degree from Mount Mercy College. Her love of children and commitment to education was a natural fit. In her 19 years of teaching, Sally touched the lives of hundreds of children in the Cedar Rapids District. She was beloved by her students, many of whom stayed in contact over the years. If you were lucky enough to meet Sally, you met a lifelong, devoted and loyal friend. She was a part of many clubs but enjoyed Book Club and Birthday Club the most. Sally was a popular member of the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. Sally adored her grandchildren and relished every opportunity to spoil them. What Sally might be best known for is her love of chocolate.
Sally is survived by her three children, Tracey (Brian), Mark and Christopher; sister, Patty Walsh (Denny); brother, David Harms (Crystol); grandchildren, Madison and Hunter Krousie, Sophie Beltz and Mylan Beltz; special friend, Jaak Jacobson; nieces, Jani, Meghan and Holly; and nephews, Zak, Travis and Dustin.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Ferol Harms; her husband, Scott; sister, Rebecca Mock; daughter-in-law, Tara Beltz (Mark); and nephew, Eli Harms.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 3, at St. Stephen's, 610 31st St. SE, Cedar Rapids. There will be a luncheon held immediately following the service at St. Stephen's and all are welcome to come celebrate the life of this amazing woman and incredible mother.
Memorials can be made to the family and sent to 940 South Fifth St., Marion, IA 52302.
