Sallie Shaffer, 86, died peacefully Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at Windmill Manor.
Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with the time and date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
Sallie was born Oct. 24, 1930, in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Dr. Walter Scott and Lois Dugan Neff. On April 2, 1955, Sallie married Delmar "Hap" Shaffer in Virginia, Minn.
Sallie was employed at the University of Iowa in financial management, retiring in 1995. Before that, she was employed with Proctor and Gamble.
Most important to Sallie was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and their bunnies. She enjoyed time spent knitting and watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
She was a member of Sharon Center United Methodist Church, where she was a choir member, and Methodist Women. She enjoyed the Sharon Center Fourth of July parades.
Sallie is survived by three children, Doug (Sandy) Shaffer of Kalona, Jeanette Shaffer of Riverside and Karen (Mike) Dinnel of Iowa City; 10 grandchildren, Danielle, Dustin, Jon, Stephanie, Rhonda, Deshawn, Ashleigh, Felicia, Amber and Haleigh; 14 great- grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five siblings, Deb Klein of Cedar Rapids and Kathy Neff, Robert Neff, David Neff and Scott Neff.
Sallie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one great-grandson, Lincoln.
