Salimeh G. Chahine, 90, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ain Arab, Lebanon, passed away on June 19, 2023, in Houston, Texas. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, at St. George Church, with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday June 28, at St. George Orthodox Church by Father Fred Shaheen officiating. Burial will take place at St. George Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Salimeh George Nassif was born on Jan. 1, 1933, in Ain Arab, Lebanon, the daughter of George and Nassima Nassif. She united in marriage to Nicolas Chahine on May 1, 1951. They had seven children. In 1983, she came to Iowa, seeking a better and safer future for her younger kids and in the hope of one day having all her kids reunited here. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Nicolas G. Chahine.
Surviving are her children, Marie Kassis of Beirut, George of Marion, Andre’ and his wife, Hannah of Beirut, Toni and his wife, Viviane of Beirut, Fadia Skaff and her husband, Gary of Lake Mary, Fla., Tom and his wife, Marie of Cedar Rapids, and Eli and his wife, Aurora of Huston, Texas. Salimeh is survived by 32 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Salimeh had as
unwavering
faith in God, and her faith only grew stronger in her final years of life. Salimeh was a devoted mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Memorial donations in Salimeh’s honor may be directed to the family.
