Sagan, Joanne Adelaide
Joanne Adelaide Sagan, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton, with the Rev. Jo Kinnard officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and also one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Joanne was born Jan. 1, 1935, in Walker, Minn., the daughter of Nels and Loretta Christenson Bergly. She graduated from high school in Walker and went on to graduate from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., in 1956. On Sept. 14, 1963, Joanne was united in marriage with Alexander Sagan in Minneapolis. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 2006.
Joanne worked for General Mills as a secretary. She was also a secretary and playground attendant at Sunny Hollow School.
She was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton and participated in the church's Quilting Club. Along with quilting, she enjoyed sewing and needlework. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.
Joanne is survived by two sons, Tim (Beth) Sagan of Cedar Rapids and Nick (Angela) Sagan of Vinton; two brothers, John (Sue) Bergly of Minneapolis and Dick (Jane) Bergly of Leesburg, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Nick (Amy), Rachel, Grant, Nolan, Anna and Josie Sagan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Paula Sagan; and sister, Gloria Uden.
A memorial fund has been established.
