Sabin, Paul Edward
Paul Edward Sabin, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Cottage Grove Place, after an extended illness. Services at 11 a.m. Monday at the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church where friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Michael Metz will officiate. Private family entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lila; two sons, Al (Dawn) of Cedar Rapids and their children, Dr. Arick (Amy), Andrew and Raechal, and Todd (Mickey) of Cedar Rapids and their children, Alec, Lanie and Shea; one brother, John (Hattie) of Manchester; three sisters, Lylas Pensel and Phyllis (Hap) Salow, all of Earlville, and Kay Kruger of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eileen; and two brothers, Bernie and Gene.
Paul was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Clayton County, the son of Halsey and Mary Combs Sabin. He married Lila L. Lee on June 6, 1956, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Paul worked at Longview Fibre as a supervisor for over 35 years, retiring in 1992.
Paul was a faithful member of the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 at Fort Sill, Okla. He enjoyed woodworking; building bird houses and feeders as well as feeding and watching the birds and squirrels
Paul was one of the original “pickers,” going to auctions and sales all over Eastern Iowa. He also enjoyed fishing, weekends spent at the farm, yard work and especially the time he spent with friends and his beloved family. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy or to Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. Please leave a message or tribute to the Sabin family on the website under obituaries.
