Sabahudin “Budo” Heder passed away on Sept. 27, 2023, at the age of 58. Prayer service will be held Sept. 29, at the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids at 1:15 p.m. following Friday Jummah prayer. Burial services will commence at the Muslim National Cemetery at 2 p.m. presided by Imam Taha Tawil. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Budo was born Feb. 17, 1965, in Sanski Most, Bosnia and Herzegovina to Ahmet (PBUH) and Vasvija Heder. In youth, soccer was his passion and he spent much of his time active in his hometown league. In addition to running his own successful Disco in his early adulthood, Budo studied engineering until war broke out in 1992. A survivor of Manjaca Concentration Camp, being reunited with his father, Ahmet (PBUH), mother Vasvija, and wife Emira, all with whom he immigrated to the United States on July 4, 1994.
Emira and Budo were lifelong friends, lovers, and companions. They were blessed with two children, Ella and Elliott.
Budo served our community proudly as the owner of Downtown Tailoring, a family business established and coined by Father Ahmet, which he operated as a staple of Downtown since the early 90s. Budo was known for his grit, hard work and determination as well as his kindness, humor and giving nature. A true embodiment of the American Dream, he worked relentlessly to provide a better life for his family and took great pride in the achievements of his two children.
He is survived by his mother, Vasvija (Kenjar) Heder; wife, Emira; children, Elliott and Ella; sister, Elma (Aziz) Sukalo of Sarajevo; nephews, Tariq and Ado; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by father, Ahmet; and brother, Elmin.
