Ryan, Loretta
Loretta Ryan, 93, of Manchester, died Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha.
Loretta Isabelle (Burnside) Ryan was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Manchester, the daughter of Deane and Lillian (Temple) Burnside. During her school years she stayed with loving grandparents, Thomas and Isabelle Kent. Loretta graduated from Manchester High School with the class of 1935. That same year she married Claude Ryan of rural Manchester and they moved to a farm in Honey Creek Township, where they resided for over 40 years, then retired to Manchester.
Loretta was a homemaker, and loved her family and friends. She enjoyed her flower garden, and had many varieties both in her home and garden. She was a 72-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, and in her younger days, was very active in the order and held offices.
Loretta is survived by one son, Larry D. Ryan of Cedar Rapids; three grandsons, Scott (Diane) Ryan of Marion, Steven Ryan of Cedar Rapids and Russ Ryan of Chicago; and two great-granddaughters, Leah Ryan and Laura Ryan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Claude, who passed away in 1990.
