Ryan, Daniel Joseph
Daniel Joseph Ryan, 79, of Marion, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral mass: 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, where a vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Burial with military rites: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty; five children, Catherine (Alan) Jones, Colleen Ryan, Nancy Ryan, Daniel (Mansun) Ryan and Joseph Ryan; five grandchildren, Alicia Hrachovec, Michael Hrachovec, Danielle Hrachovec, Echo Jones (Alfredo) Angeles and Brittany Jones; two great-grandchildren, Mariana Angeles and Erick Angeles; two brothers, Tom Ryan of Florida, and James (Doris) Ryan of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, JoAnn Brady of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children; and four siblings, Mary Winifred, Robert Ryan, Kathleen Baker and Patrick Ryan.
Dan was born Oct. 5, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John T. and Catherine D. (Walsh) Ryan. He attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from McKinley High School in 1949, and DeVry Tech Institute in 1955. He married Betty Jo Kiser on Oct. 25, 1958, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Dan served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a test tech at Collins Radio for 30 years, retiring in 1988. Dan was a member of the American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served many years as union steward for IBEW Union Local No. 1362.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dan's memory.
