Ryan, Bernard V.
Bernard V. Ryan, 84, of Ryan, recently of Delaware, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Bernard Vincent Ryan was born July 31, 1928, at home on the family farm, northwest of Ryan, the son of Frank and Helen (McElligott) Ryan. Bernard graduated from St. John's High School, Ryan, with the class of 1946. He attended Iowa State University in Ames for a time.
Bernard was a lifelong farmer and land steward. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ryan, where he taught CCD classes, and helped with church functions. Bernard truly lived “Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself.”
He so enjoyed his home and acreage in Delaware. Since his auto accident in August 2011, he suffered greatly with compounded medical complications.
Survivors include siblings, Marian Steins of Long Beach, Calif., Rose Marie Ryan of North Liberty, Rita (Jerry) Landherr of Austin, Minn., and Louis Ryan of Marion; special friend, Mary Ellen Harvey of North Liberty; and many nieces and nephews.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Talley; and a stillborn baby brother.

Mass of Resurrection: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 1, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ryan, by the Rev. Richard Gaul. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 31, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, with a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also will be one hour before services at the church on Monday. Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Ryan.
