Ruth E. Woodhouse, 91, died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at home surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Steven Witt officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will
be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Regina Foundation, St. Mary's Church or Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.
Ruth was born March 19, 1927, in Iowa City, the daughter of Edward and Marie Buck Burger. She was a 1945 graduate of St. Mary's High School. On Aug. 6, 1953, Ruth married Donald Woodhouse in Iowa City. Ruth was an accounting clerk with Seabury & Smith for many years. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time at the casino and shopping. She was an avid Hawkeye football fan and was very supportive of Regina High School. Most important to Ruth was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and her sisters.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caregivers with Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids, especially Lynn Beadle for her wonderful care.
Survivors include her four children, Michael (Debra) Woodhouse of Iowa City, Stephen (Jane) Woodhouse of Marion, Christopher Woodhouse (Diane Baker) and Anne (Dale) Weir, both of Iowa City; seven grandchildren, Jaclyn (Mike) Nowotny, Angela (Dennis Sr.) Seay, Mark Woodhouse, Cristina Woodhouse, Joseph Woodhouse, Nathan Weir and Jon Woodhouse; six great-grandchildren, Samantha, Dennis Jr., Lisa, Ashleigh, Jocelyn and Lily; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sisters, Eunice "Sam" (Jerry) DeFrance and Jean (John) O'Neill.
