Ruth Wesbrook, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, in hospice care. A Celebration of Life Open House will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. with an opportunity to share at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, at the Northwest Recreation Center, 1340 11th St. NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids following the funeral luncheon. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family. Ruth was born Nov. 30, 1933, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of George and Armella (Imhoff) Frye. She graduated from St. Patrick High School, Class of 1951, and was a dispatcher for many truck companies in her working career. She married Melvin Wesbrook on Oct. 17, 1953. Ruth was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She loved to support her kids and grandkids in their lives and events. Ruth enjoyed being active in Silver Sneakers at the YMCA. She loved taking walks in her beloved E Avenue neighborhood, always had a good joke to tell, and she always enjoyed playing cards. Ruth's caring, openness and humor will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her children, Tracy (Eric) Petersen, Scott (Kim) Wesbrook, Lisa Staude and Dee (Joan) Wesbrook; siblings, Anna Homan and Dick Frye; grandchildren, Andrew, Thomas (Maddie), Joseph, Anna (Colin), Shane (Jaime), Hayley, Kamrie, Michael (Jen), Kristin (Andrew), Jane and Scott; great-grandchild, Lyla Staude; and many nieces and nephews including Nick and Amy, who considered Ruth to be their second mom since she was their daycare provider for many years.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Wesbrook; sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Leonard Fuchs; son-in-law, David Staude; brother-in-law, Nick Homan; and sister-in-law, Carol Frye.
