Ruth Vera Hess, 90, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Anamosa, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at St. Luke’s Transitional Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Ruth was born on July 5, 1933, in Traer, Iowa, the daughter of John David and Emma Lavina (Harder) Welton. She was a graduate of Marion High School and went on to work for Rockwell Collins, until her retirement. On August 4, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage to Miles Junior Hess in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed reading William Johnstone books and was known for her quilting. Ruth most enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ruth is survived and lovingly remembered by her two sons, Michael (Julie) Hess Sr. of Faribault, Minnesota, and Mark (Deb) Hess of Marion; four grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Hess Jr., Joel (Amanda) Hess, Melissa (Mike) Finn, and Doug Hess; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Diana Pennington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Miles Hess; brothers, Henry and Floyd Smittcamp, and Russell Welton; and sisters, Barbara (Tom) Diggs and Joyce Skinner.
