Ruth Olive Jahnke, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Grand Living at Indian Creek. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 9:00 am until the 11:00 am Memorial Service at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Ruth Olive Jahnke, under the video tab starting at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 28, 2024. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Ruth was born on October 17, 1941 to Floyd and Lucille (Hance) Blair at her Hance grandparent’s farmhouse north of Creston, Iowa. She graduated from Creston High School in 1959. Ruth worked at Collins Radio from 1963 to 1966, where she met her husband Ronald. They were married on March 27, 1965 at First United Methodist Church in Garner, IA. Ruth then raised her family and earned her Associate’s Degree in Applied Science, Accounting Specialist from Kirkwood College in 1976. She then rejoined Rockwell Collins in 1976 where she worked in accounting related fields until she retired in 1997. A woman of faith and service, Ruth was a member of Marion Methodist Women’s Circle, taught Sunday School, participated in several Methodist mission trips to UMCOR Sager Brown in Baldwin, LA and was involved with the Feed the Local Youth Program. She enjoyed documenting, photographing and assisting the Methodist Church volunteers with the recovery of the 2008 flood. Ruth loved photography, bowling, working on craft projects, making quilts, shopping with friends and sewing many school bags for church mission projects. She enjoyed traveling, playing shuffleboard and walking the beaches looking for seashells while being a snowbird in Limetree Park, Bonita Springs, FL for 18 years. Ruth also loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, and was loved by all who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ronald: children, Michael (Raquel) Jahnke of Sioux Falls, SD and Kimberly (David) Ackley of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Christopher) Price, Dalton Ackley, Haley Jahnke and Payton Jahnke; and great-granddaughter, Paisley Price; brother Robert (Dorothy) Blair of Spokane, WA and sister Vanita (Richard) Moberg of Creston, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to thank the staff of Grand Living at Indian Creek and Hospice of Mercy for her care.
