Ruth was born in Columbus, Neb., on Jan. 31, 1928, to Jesse Bisson and Ethel Gossard Bisson. Ruth graduated from Columbus High School in 1945 and received her B.A. in home economics/child development from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, in 1949. Ruth was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, Order of Eastern Star, West Union Wednesday Art Club and a 50-year member of the PEO Sisterhood.

As a young woman, Ruth loved roller skating, dancing, riding her bike and traveling to the Rocky Mountains with her parents. Ruth was a people person and was a pro at the art of communication. This was reflected in her ability to form lasting friendships. Ruth's most important role in life was being an affirming, accepting, loving and FUN mother and grandmother! She was devoted to her family.
While living in Sumner, Iowa, Ruth was the consummate Welcome Wagon hostess and assisted many families in finding the perfect home while leading the Moser Real Estate office there. Ruthie loved to travel and became an enthusiastic travel agent, operating Get-Away Travel with her husband, Bruce, in West Union, Iowa. Her favorite trips were Door County, Wis., annually, cruising the Hawaiian Islands and enjoying Lake Tahoe from the top of the Heavenly chairlift.
While participating in the Ornish Intensive Program for Reversing Heart Disease at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Ruth explored research based practices in diet, exercise and meditation while making many friends.
She and Bruce enjoyed dancing throughout their married life and spending time boating on the Mississippi River. Golfing, bowling, snow/water skiing, snowmobiling and attending children's/grandchildren's events were favorite pastimes. Raising beagle puppies, watching the birds, walking among the woodland wildflowers were some of the ways Ruth connected to nature.
