Ruth Leah Ioerger Streed, 103, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Ruth was born Nov. 30, 1917, in Williams, Iowa, to Fred and Luella Ioerger. After Ruth earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from the University of Iowa in 1940, she married Glenn Streed in Iowa City on Aug.10, 1940, a marriage that lasted 67 years until Glenn passed away.
Blessed with two sons: Eric and Warren, Ruth was a devoted homemaker who helped her husband maintain a successful farm for many years. She cared deeply for her family and her faith and was a standing member of Saint Paul's Methodist Church. She was known by all for the depth, integrity, and kindness she demonstrated in her relationships with family, friends and neighbors.
Throughout her 103 years, Ruth embraced life as seen in the many interests she enjoyed. She loved traveling, reading, hiking, bird watching, playing bridge, ballroom dancing, bowling and Scandinavian cooking. She was a vigorous can-do person who treasured her Scandinavian heritage and maintained a lifelong pioneer spirit. She stayed sharp and active and was able to drive her car well past the age of 100!
Ruth is survived by her immediate family: Eric and Rosy Streed, grandson, Nicolas, and great-granddaughters, Liliana and Solina of San Diego, Calif.; Warren Streed of Seattle, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Streed (2007); as well as by her parents and all her siblings.
