Ruth Langesen died Jan. 29, 2016, at age 97.
She was born April 4, 1918, in Iowa Falls to Ole and Allie (Holland) Evans. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School and Ellsworth College, and taught in a rural school. She married Glen Langesen in 1940.
They farmed for 60 years in Iowa and Minnesota and spent winters in Arizona for 10 years. They moved to Coulter in 1990. Since 2005, Ruth had lived in Cedar Rapids with her daughter, Peg (Tom) Shedenhelm.
Ruth is survived by eight children, Judy (Dick) Blankenfeld of Hilo, Hawaii, Kay Langesen (Ray Came) of Salem, Ore., Jean (Bob) Pyles of Mount Vernon, Peggy (Tom) Shedenhelm of Cedar Rapids, Dean (Jaynie) Langesen of the Philippines, Carol (Larry) Hanson of Robins, Robert Langesen of Burke, Va., and Cathy Coking of Glendale, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen, in 2003; and son, Al, in 2004. Also preceding her in death were granddaughter, Kim Blankenfeld Derr in 2014; two sisters, Helen Efkamp and Eleanor Schultz; and two brothers, Richard Evans and John Evans.
Ruth enjoyed reading, working puzzles, playing Scrabble and frequent communication with her widespread family.
Burial will be at Alden Cemetery at a later date.
