Ruth Gwendolyn Koehn,
78, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. Celebration of
Life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6, at Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will be in Campbell Cemetery, Bertram. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids.
Ruth was born April 18, 1939, in Elkader, the daughter of Lawrence and Freda (Kraus) Miller. Ruth and Dick were united in marriage on Sept. 22, 1957, in Elkader and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this fall.
Ruth worked various jobs, such as a baker, custodial, and many years in the kitchen at Mount Vernon Schools.
Her family was her proudest accomplishment. Ruth loved her animals, cooking and attending the many family gatherings that took place. She was a 50-year member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Dick; her children, Joy (late Ivan) Kuntz of Martelle, Jay (Theresa) Koehn of Solon, Jeri Koehn of North Liberty, Jim Koehn (Karren Loomis) of Mount Vernon, Joby (Shawn) Koehn of Florahome, Fla., and Janee Koehn of Mount Vernon; 11 grandchildren, Kacey (Andrew) Schmit, Kyle (Taryn) Kuntz, Kaiden (Allison) Kuntz, Mattison (Elias) Randel, Marissa and Marshall Koehn, Jack and Austin Koehn, Jacob Koehn, Brylee and Boe Brendes; five great-grandchildren, Liam and Maxim Schmit, Oscar and Theodore Kuntz and Nelly Randel; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Ivan Kuntz; and two brothers, Lawrence Miller Jr. and Kenneth Miller.
Memorials may be directed to either Hospice of Mercy or St. Paul's Lutheran Church in her name.
