Ruth Olivia Dolezal, 86, died peacefully Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at Briarwood Care Center, Iowa City.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Grace United Methodist Church, Tiffin, by the Rev. Josh Swaim. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Service, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church or to Friends of the Center.
Ruth was born March 1, 1930, in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Axel and Olivia Sjulin Carlson. On Sept. 12, 1964, Ruth married Frank "Bud" Dolezal in Moline. Previously, Ruth had married Jerome Johnson and Leon Lyvers. She was a longtime North Liberty resident.
Ruth was a homemaker and had cooked for over 35 years at the University of Iowa - Oakdale and later IMCC.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and past president of AARP and American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered at the Senior Center and at election polls. Ruth sang with the Sweet Adelines and Voices of Experience. Ruth loved all pets, especially her cats, and played the organ and piano.
Ruth is survived by her children, Alan (Melba) Lyvers of Iowa City, Dara (Tom) Ketterer of Oakmount, Pa., Scot (LeAnn) Dolezal of North Liberty and Kent Dolezal of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Devan and Erik; her nephew, Tom Carlson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and her cat, Snoopy the Red Baron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; infant son, Samy; two brothers, Harry and Morris; and her dog, Dakota.
