Ruth F. Butterfield, for-merly of Center Point, de-parted this life Feb. 18, 2014, two days after her 97th birthday, at the home which she shared with her daughter and son-in-law. A celebration of Ruth's life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Noelridge Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 7111 C Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, officiated by the Rev. Stew Royce and the Rev. John Caughron. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial will be at a later date in Center Point Cemetery.
Ruth was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Urbana, the daughter of the late Frank and Effie Wood.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Chet Butterfield; her son, Steve; her infant granddaughter, Cristie Ann; and her four brothers.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sondra (the Rev. John) Hackerson-Caughron; grandchildren, Eric Hackerson, Phillip Butterfield and Leah Kline; and great-grandchildren, Olivia, Adyson and Benson. Also remaining to remember her are her sister-in-law, Margaret Wood; nephews, Dale and Danny Wood, Colin, Michael and Barry Wood and Bruce Butterfield; and her niece, Penny Castek.
Memorials may be directed to the CWF of First Christian Church in Center Point, where Ruth was a lifelong member, to start a fund to purchase a new commercial stove, an aspiration which Ruth cherished for many years.
Ruth had worked in several endeavors, but will be best remembered as the food service manager for the Center Point High School for many years.
