RUTH HENRIETTE BURESH GREEN
Wake Forest, N.C.
Ruth Henriette Buresh Green, 99, died peacefully at Rex Skilled Nursing Center in Raleigh, N.C., on Dec. 27, 2015, after a period of declining health.
She was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Howard County,
Iowa, to Yaroslav and Caroline Vavricek Buresh. After graduating from business college, Mrs. Green attended the Chicago Institute of Art, and later worked as a paralegal in Chicago. During World War II, she contributed to the war effort by serving as a meteorological observer and forecaster for the National Weather Bureau in Palisades Park, Calif. On Feb. 27, 1944, she married Jay Robert Green in Panama City, Fla., later settling to raise a family in Charlotte, N.C.
Mrs. Green always showed a passion for visual art and maintained decades-long hobbies in painting and calligraphy. "Mumsy," as she was known to family and friends alike, was known for her dry wit, her love of birds and her no-nonsense insights on public affairs.
She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church (now Sedgefield Church) of Charlotte until shortly before relocating to Wake Forest to live with her daughter, Carol.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Francis, Milton and Libby; husband, Jay; and daughter, Sandra G. Tamplin (Frank Sr.).
She is survived by a daughter, Carol G. Cass of Wake Forest, N.C.; a son, Michael A. Green of Kernersville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth C. Stafford (Mark) of Winston-Salem, N.C., Robert C. Cass Jr. (Sherri) of Raleigh, N.C., John L. Capes (Vickie) of Jamestown, N.C., Laura G. Skvoretz (Chris) of Huntersville, N.C., Bradley M. Green of Asheville, N.C., and Frank H. Tamplin Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; and nine great-grandchildren.
Williford Funeral Home of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., is assisting the Green family.
A remembrance service will be held for Mrs. Green in Charlotte at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mrs. Green's memory be made to the Rex Healthcare Foundation Longterm Care Fund, 2500 Blue Ridge Rd., Suite 325, Raleigh, NC 27607, rexhealthcarefoundation.
