Ruth Bernice Ross, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Winslow House Care Center in Marion. Per Ruth’s wishes, services will be limited to a private family burial. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Ruth was born on June 3, 1941, in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert “Dillon” and Arleta (Berve) Hall. She was raised in the Anamosa, Strawberry Point, and Arlington, Iowa, areas. Ruth married Bill Ross and together they raised their son, Steven, in Central City and Cedar Rapids. Ruth was employed with Frank Magid, for 18 years, while she also operated her own Cat Nanny business. When her health forced her to slow down, she delighted in being a Foster Grandparent. She especially enjoyed tending to the many flower beds in her yard. Her love for animals was unmatched, always having a cat or a dog on her lap. She once told us she loved animals more than she loved most people.
Ruth is survived and lovingly remembered by her brother, Wayne Hall of Anamosa; cousin, Sandi Conrad of Hampton, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; a special great-niece, Niki Davis; and brothers-in-law, Dave Bowdish of Marion, and Gary Johnson of San Marcos, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Bill Ross; son, Steven Ross; sisters, Gayelle Manuel Bowdish and Judee Hiegel Johnson; nephews, Harvey Hall and Brad Manuel; and nieces, Lynda Manuel and Diane Posekany.
The family wishes to thank the Winslow House Care Team and Unity Point Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Ruth for the past three months.
Memorials may be directed to an animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
